Repeal section 18 of Manitoba’s Human Rights Code

Send a letter to Manitoba’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General urging the government to repeal section 18 of Manitoba’s Human Rights Code, which grants Manitoba’s human rights system broad authority to regulate lawful speech and political expression. While Manitoba’s human rights laws already prohibit genuine discrimination in employment, housing, and public services, section 18 goes further by targeting speech itself. Across Canada, similar provisions have increasingly been used to investigate and penalize citizens for expressing lawful opinions on controversial social and political issues. Manitoba should protect both genuine human rights and freedom of expression by repealing laws that enable censorship through human rights tribunals.
