Repeal section 13 of Ontario’s Human Rights Code
Send a letter to Ontario’s Attorney General urging the government to repeal section 13 of Ontario’s Human Rights Code, which grants Ontario’s human rights system authority to regulate certain forms of lawful speech and political expression. While Ontario’s human rights laws already prohibit genuine discrimination in employment, housing, and public services, section 13 goes further by targeting expressive activity itself. Across Canada, similar provisions have increasingly been used to investigate and penalize citizens for expressing lawful opinions on controversial social and political issues. Ontario should protect both genuine human rights and freedom of expression by repealing laws that enable censorship through human rights tribunals.
