Repeal section 7 of British Columbia’s Human Rights Code

Send a letter to British Columbia’s Attorney General urging the government to repeal section 7(1) of BC’s Human Rights Code, which grants the BC Human Rights Tribunal broad powers to regulate lawful speech and political expression. While BC’s human rights laws already prohibit genuine discrimination in employment, housing, and public services, section 7 goes further by targeting speech itself. In recent years, this provision has increasingly been used to investigate and penalize Canadians for expressing lawful opinions on controversial social and political issues. British Columbia should protect both genuine human rights and freedom of expression by repealing laws that enable censorship through human rights tribunals.
