Repeal section 3 of Alberta’s Human Rights Act
Send a letter to Alberta’s Minister of Justice urging the government to repeal section 3 of Alberta’s Human Rights Act, which grants broad powers to regulate lawful speech and political expression. While Alberta’s human rights laws already prohibit genuine discrimination in employment, housing, and public services, section 3 goes further by targeting speech itself. Across Canada, similar provisions have increasingly been used to investigate and penalize citizens for expressing lawful opinions on controversial social and political issues. Alberta should protect both genuine human rights and freedom of expression by repealing laws that enable censorship through human rights tribunals.
