Have Your Say--Tell Your MP What Your Care AboutTell your MP what you think BILL C 484: CALL TO ACTIONLast March, Bill C‑484, the Unborn Victims of Crime Act, passed second reading in the House of Commons. This bill seeks to amend the Criminal Code and to create a separate offence for causing the injury or death of an “unborn child” should a pregnant woman be the victim of a crime. Although defenders of this bill claim they want to better protect pregnant women against violence, what is really at stake here is the legal recognition of the fetus’ right to life and the possible re-criminalization of abortion. Parliament Hill workers need health and safety protection nowThe PSAC is asking that all members send a letter to your Member of Parliament urging the government to proclaim Part III (Occupational Health and Safety) of the Parliamentary Employment Staff Relations Act. Help eliminate pay zonesThe 2006 PSAC Triennial Convention made the elimination of the pay zones a key collective bargaining priority for this round of bargaining. Fax your MP and help end the discriminatory treatment of workers who are paid regional rates of pay based on where they work and not for the work they perform. Canada Post strategic reviewThe federal government is in the midst of a “strategic review” of Canada Post. The future of the post office and the people who work there is being decided by a panel of government-appointed “experts” – all behind closed doors, with little input from the public. Originally scheduled for implementation later this year, it is now expected that the card will be in place by mid-2009. |
