Canadians want to trust that their food is safe to eat, their water is safe to drink, and their economy is growing in a way that benefits them without harming future generations.
Right now, the federal government is taking a new approach to science. It’s an approach that relies on industry self-policing to ensure safe food while eliminating the laboratories and other public science facilities and expertise required for government oversight.
These new policies will pull government away from protecting the public interest by cutting food safety programs and transferring responsibility for product safety to industry.
Every day Canadian public scientists work to protect our health and well-being.
Vital research and data on invasive species that threaten our environment and our economy, and on climate change – the greatest challenge facing humanity today – will be put on the back burner.
We can’t afford this “hands off” approach to public science. Our safety, our security and our environment are at stake.
Take action.
