Dear Member of Parliament:
Since October 2008, nearly 400,000 Canadians have lost their jobs. The
federal government is not doing enough to help the victims of this
economic recession - manufacturing workers, the unemployed, the poor,
and Canadians on pensions and fixed incomes.
The federal government's budget approach was to help banks and
corporations get through this difficult period and provided very little
to assist unemployed workers, their families and communities. I ask you
to urge the federal government to help families and communities
suffering through this crisis with:
1. Changes to Employment Insurance;
2. Improvements to Retirement and Pension Security;
3. Address the problem of bank bailouts and interest rate spreads
between the bank rate and mortgage rates and consumer loans;
4. Invest in public services like health care, child care, community-based social services and elder care.
